Audi Equestrian MastersFormerly known as the International Jumping of Brussels, the event was reborn in 2004. Under the direction of equestrian legend, Nelson Pessoa, and his son and Olympic Champion, Rodrigo, the event has grown to become one of the leading events on the international equestrian calendar and one the major sports events to take place annually in Belgium. Results from Brussels As already several times before both Noora and Mikael takes part in this spectacular show. Noora jumps the Silver tour with Quinault and Winnie, Mikael the Gold tour with Skybreaker and Isaac du Jonquet. Noora and Mikael in BrusselsIt’s been a good first days in Brussels. The Audi Equestrian Masters has moved to a new location, to the Brussels Expo, which is next door to Brussels “landmark”, the Atomium landmark, and the King’s resident. The expo is not as cosy as it used to be in the architecturally beautiful Tour at Taxis hall, but the present facility offers much better possibilities especially in terms of the stable and warm-up areas. Also the arena is somewhat more spacey than before. On Thursday Noora started on the Silver Tour with a new horse. Newer before competed with Quinault. Noora started with the fierce-reputed stallion on 1m35 level. An unfortunate knockdown in the end of course, but otherwise an excellent start. Noora told she rode for time and she let perhaps the stallion run too much in the last corner, taking the front rail of last oxer. With Winnie Noora started in the 1m45 GP-qualifier and jumped directly into the Sunday’s final among the 25 best from the 67 competitor class. It was an excellent clear round taking them into jump-off. With very few jump-off’s under their belt Noora and Winnie ended up too close to one vertical. Noora told she is still learning to assess Winnie’s very long stride, but was happy also with their jump-off. Mikael jumped Thursday with Isaac on the Gold Tour 1m40 against the clock. A good clear round left horse and rider just outside placings, but nevertheless Mikael felt the horse felt good and jumped the course effortlessly in a good tempo. Skybreaker aka Grand master “Opa”, Mikael spirited old gentleman, jumped a double clear in Thursday’s main event, the 1m45 with jump-off, giving horse and rider a nice 10th place. On Friday the show continued with 3 more classes. In the morning’s 1m40 class, Noora had her second run with Quinault and now horse and rider managed a spotless round against the clock. Noora was very pleased with their performance, feeling already more at home with the stallion, and hope they would do a good couple in the future. In the second GP-qualifier, Noora and Winnie had two rails down. Winnie appeared first at sleep, making a small mistake on the first fence. Noora told she later came too fast into the triple combination, with a very short b to c distance, giving Winnie very few other alternatives than erring on the last jump. Noora told she’ll give the gelding a day off on Saturday and continue then in the GP on Sunday. In one of the main attractions of the show, the Rolex sponsored 1m55 with a jump-off Mikael and Isaac did an excellent attempt, Noora told Mikael rode very well, but horse and rider had terrible luck at the very last fence, as Isaac made an ever so small mistake at the vertical, the b-part of the triple combination. Mikael was quite disappointed, but naturally at ease with his well-jumping horse and a few World Ranking points scored from the class. Saturday and SundaySaturday and Sunday brought some more success for both riders. Noora did a fabulous round with Quinault and placed 6th in 1m40 with 2 phases. Mikael jumped with Tosca’s Lena in 1m40, having one unfortunate knockdown. In Saturday’s main attraction, Mikael jumped a fabulous 1m55 round with Skybreaker, but took one very unlucky fault for exceeding time allowed. The result was good for some FEI ranking points though.
